It's the American dream.

I already go to plerk every school year (as a teacher) since I don't take my official image too seriously but what I actually accomplish is marvelously fun. I'll call my playmate/boss my "ploss" and my objectives/enjoyment my "oboyment." Oh boy. I MUST be some kind of poet.

If you want to leave comments on MY blog page you have to sign in as "Mark" and enter password "blanche."

Dwight, BE CAREFUL on that skateboard! I cringe but you must have a blast.

Dude. Your style is very readable!

My feelings on this subject are that when we are aligned with what we are here on this planet for, that what we do to contribute to society brings us a lot of joy.

Perhaps some jobs we get into are "training" grounds until we we find that true north!

As a writer and personal transformation coach, I always thought I had to have that other "paid work" to support doing what I love. Well, guess what, as soon as I jumped with both feet into the work I love -- really making a commitment to doing it -- other means of support showed up!

You can never tell with this universe! Expect miracles. Why not!?

CynthiaCynthia Yoderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16682395518927513321noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6264486158964536580.post-76230827379927080492007-07-08T10:29:00.000-04:002007-07-08T10:29:00.000-04:00LOVE that quotation, Dwight!!! It's like "somebody's gotta do the dirty job". LOL!!! Well, I sure hope they enjoy their jobs, too. Finding purpose in their jobs, at least...to make this world a better place and gain satisfaction from it. :-)))Amelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16792921371964029469noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6264486158964536580.post-33344318496253834592007-07-05T08:13:00.000-04:002007-07-05T08:13:00.000-04:00I love your last sentence, Amel. That's when our best can be achieved and we make the greatest contribution to society.

However, I wonder if some jobs are necessary, like sanitation engineer. I might think we definitely need that job done, even if it's less than loved, given current circumstances. But I might think otherwise if those that are passionate about efficiency and the environment make it easier and desirable to recycle when they design packaging.

Thanks for your stories about having a mixture of work and play. I believe they're truly an inspiration to others to seek that mix if they don't have it.Dwighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05718480509481117745noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6264486158964536580.post-25316619411472347532007-07-03T10:28:00.000-04:002007-07-03T10:28:00.000-04:00Hmmm...tough questions again. I used to work as a ...Hmmm...tough questions again. I used to work as a translator back in Indo. I LOVED that job, even though I did need a break from it (once a week I went out and didn't use the computer to "work"). The reason I loved the job was that I could read lots of books and be PAID for translating them. Also, I could set my own schedule. I LOVED working alone. I could set my own pace and decided how fast I wanted to translate a book and I could target myself.

So for me, that job had been work and play. I could delve into any kind of world the writers described. I could get more info about anything, any other place, from the writers. Sometimes it did felt more like "work" - when I got some books that I didn't particularly like so much.

Something I was meant to do and it gives me a great joy to do it? WRITING! Definitely! :-D Translating was fun, too, even though I hated the editing part he he he...LOL!!!

I think I want to have the kind of job that I love (when I get a chance to work again) so that it can be combined with play. However, if I can't find that kind of job, I'll learn to pick the kind of job that I think I can love. Thus, later on I can learn to combine the work with play.

My Mom's been selling food that she cooks herself at a traditional market. She LOVES that "hobby" 'coz she gets to meet people (she's the outgoing type, my opposite). She gets to know more info from those people. She can give advise to those people. She can touch other people's lives through her "hobby". She can give joy to people through her delicious food. I think that's also combined work and play. The days when it feels more like "work" are the days when she comes home with plenty of unsold food.

I think there are good days when work feels more like work than play. I know that some people can learn to love their jobs even though at first they dislike it (they just need the jobs). However, it'd be WONDERFUL if people can have jobs that they love doing. :-))))Amelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16792921371964029469noreply@blogger.com
